Show notes: “Drawing Funny” episode #90 is so nice, I did it twice! Due to technical difficulties mixed with my stupidity, I not only had to record this podcast twice, but I had to edit it twice, too! It’s the episode that for a bit- wasn’t! Hopefully you’ll think it’s worth the effort and learn something from it…even if it’s how NOT to do something.
I discuss some of my history with comic conventions, my opinions on the con scene today, some of my “rules” and advice for setting up at cons and art events, plus a few details and thoughts on my continuing search for new revenue streams for my art- especially passive ones and making money on an image for years to come.
Has the con scene hit oversaturation? Are comics and comic creators becoming a rare sight at “comic cons”? Is consignment and/or print-on-demand worth the effort?
I share news on the upcoming Mid-South Cartoonists Association Monthly Dinner Gatherings at Garibaldi’s Pizza (1st Tuesday of each month from 6-8pm), and our ongoing MSCA “Art Of The Game” art show and the recent artists reception out at the Memphis Jewish Community Center.
We had a great turnout for the reception and a few of the pieces had already sold! Several left for sale now through January 30th in the art gallery at the MJCC. I’ve got 4 art pieces for sale including this “Fallout” Ghoul marker portrait and the Sark “TRON” airbrushed portrait.
More shameless plugs- later next month on February 28th I’ll be at the Mid-South Collectible Toy Show in Bartlett, TN, the Beale Street Monster Club’s Bigfoot On Beale Celebration at historic A. Schwab’s on May 16th, and my “Featured Creatures” airbrushed monsterpiece art show this summer. It’s going to be upstairs in the 2nd Floor West gallery at Playhouse On The Square June 6-August 2, 2026. I’ll have prints and zines for sale, and free refreshments at the joint artists reception with local artist Angi Cooper on June 5th from 5-7pm. Here art will be on display downstairs, and mine will be upstairs in the same gallery that the MSCA’s “Kitchen Sink” art show was this past summer. Both art shows will be in conjunction with Playhouse’s performance of “Sweeny Todd”.
Currently I’ve got original art for sale including hand-drawn sketcovers and sketchcards out at The Cellar Table Top Games & Comics in Bartlett, TN. Check out my website for more details on how you can own my art, including my original monsterpieces.
