Episode 83 – “Old Dog / New Trick”

Show notes: In this episode I give you info on upcoming events like MSCA upcoming art shows, monthly dinner gatherings at Garibaldi’s PizzaConCards game nights, Rogue’s Gallery Daughters Of Dorkness pop-up shop, updates on our The Good, The Bad, And The Sketchy” zine, and go over upcoming events around the M-town like the Memphis Comic Expo, Memphis Comic and Fantasy Convention, and Monster Market– including a quick interview with head monster maker Holtermonster herself, Lauren Holtermann!

I also discuss my latest art projects, and opinion on teaching an old dog like myself some new tricks, and trying to remember how to do some of my old tricks!

I’ve been creating some new wood panel art for Monster Market this October. Having a lot of fun with these Trekell art panels and acrylic paint markers.

Last week I also broke out my compressor to get back in the saddle with airbrushing and creating new monsterpiece paintings. I started painting back in ’86 but haven’t touched my airbrush since back around the pandemic days almost 5yrs ago..!

I talk about my recently completed Bela canvas and go over my painting process, history with airbrushing, and how creating art for me has changed over the years- the good and the bad.

This past weekend I dropped off Drac and my other art for this year’s Monster Market. I’ll have “Scared Silly” zines, art prints, stickers, “BATS” trading cards, hand-drawn sketchcards and sketchcovers, original Monsterpiece art, and more. There will be an opening night party at The Medicine Factory dowtown on Friday, October 10th from 5-10pm. It’s a free event to check out, and lots of other great monster merch to purchase!

Hope you can make it out. “Stay tooned” for more details!
